Taylorwood Kitchen Reveal
There are so many elements to consider when designing a kitchen…like, a lot. Thankfully with this project we had the help of experienced Kitchen Designers that work out all the little details and flawlessly executed this kitchen. As for the overall design scheme of the kitchen? This was a fun one for me.
When I met with these clients back in 2017, all that was standing was the frame to their new home. No walls, no flooring…nadda. It was a very large project and my clients really had no idea or time on figuring out where to begin with creating the overall look of their home. That’s where I came in. After meeting with them and getting to know their style, budget and hopes for their brand new home, it was straight to work I went. I began creating and designing the interior of this spectacular custom home.
To start this all off, let’s start at the heart of the home, the kitchen.
First of all… this kitchen is HUGE! It is so open and bright and I wanted to carry that feel through with all my design choices. We first started with picking the paint colour for the cabinets and went with Benjamin Moore Collingwood for the upper and lowers and switched the island for Benjamin Moore Escarpment to keep it light and airy.
This kitchen is packed with storage and leads to a small office space and a very large walk in pantry. Because this area is so open and has tall ceilings in the living room, we knew we needed some grounding in this space. Bringing in these stunning ashy brown hardwood floors gave us the depth and contrast we needed to achieve. With that, we decided to keep it light and bright on the walls, painting them in Sherwin Williams Worldy Gray.
When it came to backsplash, I knew we had to do something jaw dropping. With such a large and open kitchen, we needed something that caught your eye and was a statement. Safe to say we all quickly fell in love with this stunning marble mosaic that features a soft grey centre that compliments our counter choice perfectly.
Along with a huge kitchen… comes a hugeee island. Everything about this island is just perfect in my mind. When planning out a kitchen design, it’s important to put a lot of thought into your island, especially if the island is a multi used space. Most kitchen islands are used for so much more than just cooking and prepping. They’re a place to gather when entertaining, a homework/craft area, a dining area and office space. Its important to know what purposes your island will be used for and design accordingly.
Our clients entertain quite often and wanted the island to be the main hangout (as these days it always is) and with little grandkids, wanted to make sure there was always space no matter what was going on and felt comfortable. With a 10 foot island, we were able to provide seating for 5 comfortably, provide ample amount of storage and provide the optimal work space when cooking.
Obviously, we had to do something spectacular with the countertops too and went with one of the best. We chose Caesarstone Symphony Grey, which features soft greys with subtle white and dark grey veining throughout. This countertop blended so well with the colours and was keeping with the light and airy vibe. Going with a quartz countertop provides our clients with a maintenance free surface which was a huge win for them.
With such a large and open space, we knew this kitchen deserved a waterfall edge to modernize the space and be a wow factor.
When installing this island, we made sure we thought of everything. We added in charging ports on both sides of the island and even installed a Sweepovac! Which is literally a vacuum inside your island that you sweep your mess up to, and away it goes. I mean, does it get any better?
One of my favourite things about this kitchen is that the appliances don’t stick out like a sore thumb. We did an integrated fridge and grouped most of the appliances together on one wall that is out of sight for the most part when entering the room.
And last but not least, the finishing details. Because you see this kitchen head on as soon as you walk into the space, I wanted light fixtures that added interest but also didn’t take away from your view or become distracting. I chose these stunning clear glass Everly Pendants from Kichler and went with an old bronze finish for some contrast.
I then sourced these incredible stools that could stand the test of time. Keeping simplicity in mind, these sleek contemporary numbers add just enough contrast with their dark grey leather and black legs that tie in perfectly with the pendants. These stools create a beautiful focal point when entering the room and are a perfect finish to this kitchen.
