How To Mix Metals
Mixing metals is a question that I get asked so often by clients. “ How do I mix metals?”, “what metals do I mix with?” It can be daunting trying to coordinate between hardware, plumbing fixtures, lighting, decor, and so on! So to help make things a little easier, I’ve compiled a few of my simple steps to mixing metals.
1. Pick a dominant finish
When selecting your metals, start by picking the metal that is going to be used the most throughout the spaces. Could be door handles, bathroom faucets, hardware, etc. Then select your accents. Like our Marica Project, gold was the dominate finish for the entire home. With black and chrome accents.

2. Don’t go overboard.
Chrome, nickel, brushed nickel, gold, bronze, the list goes on! Select two-three finishes to work with. You want it to look intentional and prevent it from looking “messy.”

3. Mix cool and warm tones.
Don’t be afraid to mix cool and warm tones together. If you have a chrome faucet, try going for champagne gold hardware or black hardware. This creates an effortless look and lets your metals stand out.

4. Blend
Make sure you carry the metals throughout the space. Use lighting to separate metals and create balance with different heights. This creates a harmonious and cohesive design.
Don’t forget about the rest of your house! Make sure to carry those metals throughout so that all the spaces flow.

5. Don’t Overthink
Last but certainly not least. Don’t overthink it! The more you force it, the more overwhelming it will become. Go with timeless finishes like chrome and black if you are worried about trends.
Don’t forget to choose what YOU love.
